Behind The Product: We The People Pin
With July 4th coming up, I thought it was the perfect time to share a bit more about how our We The People pin came to be!
Most people will see "We The People" and assume the inspiration for this pin is the Constitution, but SURPRISE, it's not. This pin was actually inspired by the song We The People by A Tribe Called Quest (aka my favorite group ever). This song off their newest album highlights a lot of issues in Modern America. But one line in particular from the lyrical gods, "when we get hungry we eat the same f***ing food" is what sparked the We The People portion of the design. That one line is so simple and so genius. It breaks us all down to our basic needs and proves that at the end of the day, we are all cut from the same cloth.
That idea of sameness and unity mixed with the frustration of the beginning of a Trump nation lead to the raised fist design. Every detail of this design has a purpose, even the small ones like color. The green skin tone is a subtle nod to Lady Liberty herself, further cementing the idea of unity.
When creating this design, I knew I wanted a pin that would allow me to give back in my own little way. I decided to donate $1 of each sale of this pin to The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) after seeing the action they took after the first "Muslim Ban".
At the end of the day, I hope this design can portray what I personally whole-heartedly believe. Every single person on this Earth is beautiful in their own way, everyone matters, and no one is better than anyone else. Let's all focus on spreading love to strangers instead of judging them for things we don't understand and support organizations that do the same!
